I’m not going to climb on the end of days bandwagon with this particular rant. I will however say that if you believe we will not see more cases of Ebola in the US, possible alot more you are delusional. In Africa this thing has spread like wild fire and those folks are nearly as mobile as we are. We move about our towns, cities and states as breakneck speeds. We are a connected world and a very small one at that. Think how many times you have randomly run into someone you know on a vacation or amongst an enormous crowd. The world is very small when you are a mobile people.
Now that being the case, how quickly do you think Ebola could spread in the US given our ease of movement? Don’t bother to answer that, it was a rhetorical question. VERY QUICKLY! Flu outbreaks ring a bell… How quickly did an under observation, high risk individual board a commercial aircraft then proceed to:
– Potentially expose the 132 people on board
– Her fiance, family and any friends she came into contact with
But wait, there is more:
– Those 132 people then proceeded to come into contact with their loved ones
– Another 132 people boarded that exact same plane and took off to another state
– Her finance, family and friends then went off and came into contact with various people
And so on and so on and so on… Getting the picture?
For good measure this morning the CDC has finally come out and admitted they have aren’t 100% sure how Ebola was transmitted in these two cases(link to the article). Again, is anyone really surprised about that? I have known that since this thing started to heat up. Why would you admit you don’t know something as important as that about a deadly disease and panic the general public, you wouldn’t if you aren’t a complete moron.
I won’t get into the whole, “there is no standard, universally successful treatment protocol” available at this time. Pretty great news considering Ebola has been around for quite some time now and as with most things it was only a matter of time before things got out of hand.
Ok, I had to get that off my chest. I’m not saying to panic so don’t go taking all of this the wrong way. Just use your heads and take everything that comes out of these pointless press conferences with a grain of salt. At least until they offer up some concrete proof that they have some sort of handle on the situation. Have a nice weekend and stay healthy and safe.
